It took a little over 6 months and two new years (Jan 1st and L to come to a realization. I was not expecting the corporate 9 to 5 to take as much time as it did. Now that I am at the realization things are changing.

Awareness is the key, seeing and meeting the rest of the company and seeing the tracking of what happens when becoming someone who has been with the “company” for so long.

I now realize how much control we have on people; and yet at the same time how big is not good. I am aware there are advantages to the sheer size of the company and the prestige of the name; but the same time there are limits. So, what’s the plan? Learn.

In the mean time I’m learning and also keeping true to my core, and teach to those who aren’t aware the company is not the end all be all. This is not where you end this is not who you are or what defines you. The company does not own you; you are only there to gain something meaningful while providing your own input to the system.

We are a generation that can change everything; look at everything else that is happening in the world around us. We have changed the world; we can change the company.

The conversation from SXSW, the combined Pacha Kucha, and a few more conversations made me realize we need a food truck day in Dallas. There are some great ones in Dallas like The Bomb Fried Pies, Green House and many more.

Yes, as D Magazine points out they will eventually end up in the Arts District, but we need more. A conversation with my friend Valerie even brought up a good point; it’s too contrived to put all the trucks in one area. Don’t pigeon hole yourself in just one area and one neighborhood. Why can’t we have them on Greenville or in Uptown. It has to be organic, put the trucks somewhere the people are. We have great groups now riding on bikes we have great areas where people don’t need their cars to get around. All bar goers, hoppers and the masses all love food trucks. We are a vibrant city with connected people and more let’s get out there and show the powers that be Food Trucks are awesome and they are here to stay.

Action must come and what I propose is have a day dedicated to food trucks and have a day to go and enjoy them, the city, the weather and friends and family. I want to put this together and make this work we can make the Dallas area better!

So, a little re-cap for SXSW this year it was all AMAZING! Though the better things happened outside of the panels but that is okay that is the spirit of South by Southwest. Pictures below show the first of many great connections made. I ran into Phillip D. Franco, again, as I always seem to do. We also ran into Zadi Diaz and the rest of the Epic Fu Team, the creators of Riese the Series and a few more.

The biggest thing I learned is to keep creating and keep my creations going. I’m also keeping up with one of my more or less New Year’s resolutions and that is to complete projects we’ve been thinking of over and over again. So I am going to be starting a new podcast and finishing my projects this year.

Creation includes art work as well, that is going to be the hardest one for me. I have a camera I finally adore and love to shoot with all the time and get great pictures from. I just never seem to be in a place where I want to take pictures. It’s finally getting warm enough to start heading out at night and shooting the night sky. I guess time lapses are in order for pictures at night and finally getting around to getting better lenses.

I guess there should be more from this year’s SXSW but really there isn’t. The final thing I will leave everyone with is a trailer of a great movie we had the opportunity to catch Wasted on the Young:

In the mean time what is going on…

Mobile Lab is working on some neat projects and I should be posting more about what is gong on soon. Most of these updates will be coming towards the end of the week since I’m concentrating on working through out the week and becoming much more productive and regimented.

Besides the M.F.A. project and the usual nonsense there is a new film project on the horizon and hopefully I’ll have more about that coming up. Right now though you could really help things along and visit the kick starter page. Support a good cause, a great learning and life experience.

This year through may I’m trying to keep simple in the mean time. No more fuss just 3 simple goals:

• Finish projects previously uncompleted
• Graduate (finally)
• Get a job / job search for post graduate life…
• Less social commitment time

I’m a little freaked out about the graduation, I’m not gonna lie. Hopefully I can figure out what exactly I want to do and go from there. Ideas are solid and there are many interesting things going on. How can one survive off of these things. and also be funding other cool projects. That is the goal for life for now.

At this point, well, I’ve been looking into how things are moving forward and things so far can get a lot better and hopefully keep going at this pace too. As for right now all I have to say is my life feels like the embedded image. If you like the comic please support him, it is what we are all going through as graduate students. We have no life really, it seems like it and some of our research is flashy and cool. Honestly though majority of it could be more exciting if we watched the grass grow beside us.

So lately different clients have had different wants and uses. All are venturing in a new world of having an experience drive their target markets towards themselves. So this sounds all confusing, right? Well, it is a little.

Words what do they mean?

Mainly the reason it’s confusing is there is no set language or governance that explains everything. We’re having to create new terminology for everything and use words and language in a way it has never been used before. While this can be fun and interesting and a study in and of it self. It sometimes becomes a tied and tangled web of problems as well.

I am only saying this because right now I am having this same issue with people where the problems that arise are the ones where the intent and intended things are not so clear.

Also to see everything it is not possible you have to have many sets of eyes on everything. We may say see the whole board and it may be awesome to see the whole board but sometimes that is not possible at all. Sometimes a different perspective of someone who has had different life experiences will see something new and not seen how you have seen things.

So, remember, be clear in what you’re trying to accomplish and be clear in what you are trying to say. In the end the more communication the better off everything will turn out and the better off everything will be.
